The UG56 is an advanced 8-channel LoRaWAN® gateway designed for industrial environments and indoor applications. Equipped with a modern SX1302 chip and a quad-core processor, it supports over 2,000 end devices. The transmission range reaches up to 15 km in open terrain and approximately 2 km in urban areas, making the UG56 an ideal solution for smart buildings, industry and large-scale IoT deployments. 

Durability and compact design

The UG56 is enclosed in a robust metal housing with IP30 protection, resistant to demanding industrial conditions. The small dimensions of the device (110 × 75 × 24 mm) facilitate installation – it can be mounted on a desk, wall or DIN rail. This allows the gateway to be flexibly implemented in control cabinets or technical rooms.

High performance and wide range

The use of the SX1302 chip allows for intensive network traffic with low power consumption. The UG56 operates in eight half-duplex channels and supports all global LoRaWAN® bands. The gateway enables connectivity with over 2,000 Class A, B and C nodes, ensuring reliable operation of large IoT networks.

Flexible communication options

The UG56 enclosure supports multiple data transmission methods, ensuring continuity of operation thanks to backup connections:

• Ethernet (with PoE support),
• Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz),
• 4G LTE mobile network. 

Extensive security features include support for multiple VPN tunnels (IPsec, OpenVPN, WireGuard and others), a firewall and multi-level access management. 

Integration and management

The gateway offers full compatibility with popular LoRaWAN® network servers such as The Things Stack, ChirpStack, Actility and AWS. In addition, the UG56 has a built-in network server, and thanks to support for MQTT/HTTP/HTTPS and BACnet/IP and Modbus protocols, easy integration with BMS and PLC systems is possible. 

With the DeviceHub and Milesight Development Platform, administrators can easily manage their entire fleet of devices, remotely update software (FUOTA), and deploy their own applications using the built-in Python SDK and Node-RED tool. 

Intelligent features supporting implementation

The UG56 is equipped with a number of features that facilitate installation and network optimisation: 

• Gateway Fleet – ability to work as a controller for other Milesight gateways, 
• Listen Before Talk – reduction of interference through channel sharing, 
• Noise Analyzer – analysis of radio interference levels and visualisation of results, 
• automatic configuration using the RPS service and templates in the Milesight Development Platform.

Additionally, a non-standard antenna can be connected to the gateway via an SMA connector – in the UK, up to a maximum ERP power of 14 dBm – allowing for better coverage of a larger area, if necessary.
