The CA9306 is a dual-channel, bidirectional I2C and SMBus voltage-level translator designed for mixed-voltage systems. It supports a wide operating range with VREF1 from 1.2 V to 3.3 V and VREF2 from 1.8 V to 5.5 V, enabling reliable interfacing between low-voltage and high-voltage logic. With its low ON-state resistance of 3.5 Ω, the device offers minimal propagation delay and distortion, making it suitable for Standard-mode and Fast-mode I2C applications.
The translator requires no direction control pin, simplifying implementation and ensuring fully bidirectional signal flow. When EN is high, the two sides of the bus are connected; when EN is low, all pins enter a high-impedance state for bus isolation, fault recovery or mixed-speed bus separation. The CA9306 can even isolate a 400-kHz bus from a 100-kHz bus during fast-mode communication.
Supporting I2C, SMBus, PMBus, MDIO, UART, low-speed SDIO, and GPIO interfaces, the device is ideal for servers, routers, PCs and industrial automation. It comes in compact MSOP-8, DFN3×4-8 and DFN2×3-8 packages.
