Holtek presents its latest chip – HT16K24, an LCD controller/driver with keypad input functionality. This chip has been designed for a wide range of applications, such as household appliances, medical equipment for health measurements, industrial equipment and other devices with LCD displays, where space saving and design simplification are important.
The HT16K24 supports up to 160 LCD display patterns and up to 24 key inputs, allowing for the creation of advanced yet compact user interfaces. Thanks to its high level of integration, the chip significantly reduces the number of pins required on the main microcontroller and minimises the number of external components.

The chip operates in a wide supply voltage range from 2.4 V to 5.5 V, making it a versatile solution capable of working with a variety of power supply systems, both battery and mains.
The chip features a built-in I²C communication interface, which enables easy and fast communication with the microcontroller. This solution greatly simplifies PCB design and reduces the number of transmission lines required.
The HT16K24 offers three modes for configuring LCD segments and key inputs: 24SEG × 4COM + 24 KEY, 22SEG × 6COM + 22 KEY, and 20SEG × 8COM + 20 KEY. This flexible approach to configuration allows the system to be adapted to different types of displays and design requirements.
An additional advantage of the system is the ability to control up to 8 LEDs, with independent adjustment of the light current for each of them in four levels. This feature allows for direct management of light indicators without the need for additional components.
Also noteworthy is the integrated buzzer controller, which allows the generation of audio signals at frequencies of 1 kHz, 2 kHz, 4 kHz and 8 kHz. This solution eliminates the need for external sound generators and simplifies the design of the final device.
The device is available in a compact 32-pin QFN package, which saves space on the PCB and is ideal for modern, miniature designs.
The HT16K24 is another solution from Holtek that simplifies the design process, reduces component costs and shortens time to market – without compromising on functionality.
